Bank of England rate hike November 2026: the MPC raised Bank Rate +25 bp to 4% on an 8–1 vote. Catherine L Mann preferred +50 bp to 4.25%. Official Monetary Policy Summary: UK CPI was 3.5% in September and is now expected to rise to around 5% by the middle of next year; the Monetary Policy Report projects CPI averaging 4.9% in 2027 Q2. This is the post-decision update to our Nov 2 global hiking-wave preview — not a repeat of that preview.

BoE rate hike November 2026: what the MPC delivered

Per the Bank of England Monetary Policy Summary and minutes for the meeting ending 4 November 2026, eight members voted for +25 bp to 4%: Bailey, Breeden, Dhingra, Greene, Lombardelli, Pill, Ramsden, and Taylor. Catherine L Mann preferred +50 bp to 4.25%. Bank Rate had been held at 3.75% (including the September decision); this is the up-move to 4%.

The Summary states that UK CPI inflation increased to 3.5% in September and “is now expected to rise to around 5% by the middle of next year.” The November Monetary Policy Report’s central projection has CPI averaging 4.9% in 2027 Q2 (Chart 1.1 caption: projected to reach around 5% in 2027 Q2). Monetary policy “is not on a pre-set path.” Next BoE decision / minutes: 17 December 2026.

At the press conference, Governor Bailey (as reported on the Guardian live blog — third-party attribution, not a BoE transcript) said today’s increase should not be seen as the first in an inevitable long sequence of hikes, but that unless the Middle East conflict is resolved, neither does it seem likely to be the last.

What the MPC decision package is

The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee sets Bank Rate to meet the UK government’s 2% CPI inflation target. The decision package is a Monetary Policy Summary plus minutes (vote and individual views) and, on MPR meetings, the Monetary Policy Report with inflation and GDP projections. This meeting: +25 bp to 4%, vote 8–1 (Mann for +50 bp); next due 17 Dec 2026.

How it can inject energy into US markets. GBP and gilts move first; then rate differentials and the dollar; US 2y / ZQ / ES in the London–NY overlap. A delivered G10 hike with an inflation path peaking near 5% is new information into the Fed’s Dec 8–9 meeting — map the parallel, do not call the Fed vote. Fed parallel into Dec 8–9 (no prediction)

The Fed hiked +25 bp to 3.75–4.00% on Sep 16, then held Oct 28 (10–2) with Cook and Hammack preferring another hike. Kevin Warsh has chaired the FOMC since May 22, 2026. Same-day US risk-off tape (Massive REAL-TIME, label levels only): SPX about 7,353.73 (−4.36% vs prior close) as of 4:04 PM ET; VIX 28.18; VIX1D 36.80 as of ~4:15 PM ET. AI and midterms wires were also active — do not narrate the BoE as the cause of the US selloff. Kitco third-party color: spot gold about $4,128 held gains through the hike (label Kitco).

What it means for 0DTE

  • Energy: A delivered G10 hike plus an inflation path peaking near 5% is scheduled-decision information that can reprice rate differentials and the US front end into Dec 8–9 — even without a Fed vote today.
  • Premium: Today’s Massive tape already shows elevated VIX / VIX1D into the close. Let the VIX price residual event risk; do not invent a BoE-day range from this note alone.
  • Structure: Defined risk only; know max loss before entry; size for a gap through your strikes if front-end odds or GBP/USD reprice overnight.
  • Plan, don’t predict: Write scenarios before the next London–NY overlap — (1) BoE path keeps G10 hiking pressure in the narrative into Dec, (2) Bailey’s “not inevitable sequence” framing softens the follow-through read, (3) Fed parallel stays a RateWatch level, not a reaction.
