FOMC Alerts · October 31, 2026
Polymarket Fed odds and the RateWatch Tool are two live reads on the same question: what will the FOMC do at the December 8–9 meeting? RateWatch turns Massive REAL-TIME 30-day fed funds futures (ZQ) into a discrete probability strip. Polymarket (third-party) prices the December upper-bound change as a multi-outcome USDC contract set. One is a model of the futures market. The other is a prediction market. This week both sit near 70% for a December hike — close enough that the interesting story is structure, not a scoreboard.
This piece complements our Fed December rate hike odds on RateWatch path note and the RateWatch vs FedWatch product comparison. It does not replace the calendar post on the December Fed meeting. Structure over prediction.
Polymarket Fed odds vs RateWatch: the short answer
Short answer: this week Polymarket Fed odds and RateWatch both land near 70% for a December hike. Numbers move — the embeds refresh; the table is a desk snapshot. Re-pull both before you trade the idea.
| Signal | Hike-ish | Hold / no change | As of (ET) |
|---|---|---|---|
| RateWatch Tool (OUR · ZQ) | 70.4% (+25 discrete) | 29.6% | Fri Oct 30, 4:37 PM ET |
| Polymarket (third-party · YES) | 69.5% (25 bp increase) | 27.5% | Sun Nov 1, 12:42 AM ET |
Polymarket also lists thin YES prices on 50+ bp increase (~1.6%), 25 bp decrease (~0.7%), and 50+ bp decrease (~0.4%) on the same event. Multi-outcome YES prices need not sum to 1 after fees and inventory. An “any hike” sum of increase brackets is a desk construct — not a listed contract.
Timing mismatch: RateWatch’s public stamp above is from Friday’s ZQ session. Polymarket trades around the clock. Comparing them is useful only with both as-of times on the page.

RateWatch Tool: model of the futures market
The RateWatch Tool pulls Massive REAL-TIME ZQ last_trade, converts price to an implied average rate (100 − price), then applies CME FedWatch-style meeting-month day-weighting with non-meeting anchors. The strip becomes conditional probabilities in discrete 25 bp buckets. The live widget shows hike / hold / cut; any weighted expected change in bp stays in the footnote.
CME publishes the day-weighted methodology (ZQ contract specs: 30-Day Federal Funds futures). Our desk difference: we feed Massive REAL-TIME last_trade, not a delayed quote screen. Limitations stay on the label — current target-range assumption, 25 bp steps, roughly one-business-day EFFR/SOFR funding lag, and FatTail’s Warsh Watch overlay (not CME math).

Polymarket: the market itself (third-party)
Polymarket’s “Fed Decision in December?” event (id 770450) is a negRisk multi-outcome set on how many basis points the upper bound of the target federal funds rate changes at the December 2026 meeting. Resolution follows the FOMC statement after the meeting scheduled for December 8–9, 2026, per Polymarket’s published rules (changes not on the displayed ladder round up to the nearest 25 bp bracket).

For fed rate odds polymarket readers: treat YES prices as crowd-implied probabilities with spread, fees, and inventory — not as a CME day-weighted futures strip. Label stays third-party throughout.
When the two reads split
This week they do not — both hover near 70% for a hike into December. When they do diverge, useful hypotheses (not claims):
- Liquidity and who is trading. ZQ is a deep listed future; Polymarket’s December set is a retail-heavy prediction book with its own volume and depth profile.
- Instrument mapping. RateWatch’s “hike” is a discrete +25 bp bucket under CME-style math. Polymarket’s “25 bps increase” is a binary YES on that bracket alone; larger moves sit in other contracts.
- Clock. Futures settle into U.S. session liquidity; Polymarket reprices overnight headlines the futures pit has not fully digested.
- Positioning vs information. A wedge can be inventory and flow, not a new macro fact. Map the wedge; don’t invent a narrative.
Which signal would you trust when they split? The desk answer is structural: know what each instrument is pricing, stamp both as-of times, and size risk for the data path — not for a single percentage.
Path to December 8–9
The next FOMC is Tuesday–Wednesday, December 8–9 (SEP) on the Fed calendar and our next Fed meeting. Official blackout runs from Saturday, November 28, 12:00 a.m. ET through Thursday, December 10, 11:59 p.m. ET. After blackout starts, both the ZQ strip and the Polymarket book mostly trade data already in — not fresh official color.
Verified prints that can move December odds before blackout (ET; after November 1 clocks are EST): ISM Manufacturing (Nov 2), JOLTS (Nov 3), ADP / ISM Services (Nov 4), productivity and claims (Nov 5), Employment Situation (Nov 6), CPI (Nov 10), FOMC minutes of the Oct 27–28 meeting (Nov 18), and PCE / Beige Book (Nov 25). Full path detail lives on the RateWatch December path note. Re-pull the RateWatch Tool and the Polymarket embed after each major print.
What it means for 0DTE
- Energy: Scheduled data risk into Dec 8–9, plus two live odds feeds traders already watch. Not a policy decision this weekend.
- Premium: Friday Massive session stamp: SPX 7580 (−1.81%), VIX 19.42 (+12.9%). A RateWatch–Polymarket split matters for 0DTE because both are inputs into the front-end path that VIX1D / same-day gamma price — structure the tape; no directional call.
- Structure: Size for gaps on ISM, payrolls, CPI, and PCE days. Keep max loss known before entry.
- Plan, don’t predict: Desk base rates (patterns.md): FOMC-day median |SPX| about 0.55% vs 0.49% other days (n=94); hold meetings about 0.47% median / 1.08% range (n=64). Base rates, not a forecast. When the two odds feeds disagree, treat the wedge as a hypothesis checklist — liquidity, mapping, clock — then re-pull both.
